Growth Mindset: Getting Started
What is the power of understanding exactly how to turn any weakness into a strength? It is an open door to limitless possibilities. Your challenge becomes knowing who you are so that you’ll know what to pursue.
What is the Growth Mindset?
Your progress in the program, and in life, boils down to a simple question:
Are you born with talent or can talent be learned?
If you believe your basic abilities in areas such as intelligence, athleticism, writing, art, music, creativity, and so on are determined and limited by your genetics, then you are said to operate with a Fixed Mindset.
If you believe these core abilities can be developed and improved by anyone, then you are said to have the Growth Mindset.
Goodwin Davis believes in the Growth Mindset, and it’s the cornerstone concept for all of our instruction. We were surprised to discover that any trait can be vastly improved by any individual that consistently practices the right way over long periods of time.
We have two goals for our players:
- Understand and internalize the Growth Mindset
- Make informed decisions on which talents to develop
Name 3 skills you previously thought couldn’t be improved.
Name one thing you believe you’re currently “bad” at, that you would like to spend time to pursue greatness.
Greatness is possible for any skill, but only with extraordinary amounts of time and effort. How will you decide what skills are worth pursuit vs. ignoring?

Built To Lead: Getting Started
When you know who you are and what you believe, you have a roadmap to a future without fear, anxiety, or insecurity. Start down that path today.
What is Built to Lead?
We believe that the world is full of mediocre, transactional teams. Teams that exist to make a decent product, provide a fairly good environment for their workers, and treat their customers to some “garden variety” of good service. We also believe that most individuals, teams, and leaders want so much more. They want to get better. They want to be a part of something that really matters, that makes a difference in their world, that they believe in and that values them enough to give them the gift of “practice.” Most teams depend upon practice to get better. Sports teams, drama troupes, bands, orchestras, and improv groups all get better because they practice. Unfortunately, our business teams are one of the few teams who must perform at the highest level without the benefit of practice. Our time together with your team is purposed towards helping you gain the practice that is an essential part of great performance. Let me attempt to explain.
We believe that most teams want to get better; they simply do not know how. They want to win more games. They want to build something that is great and that will be perpetual. They wish they could find the magic pill. They would willingly take one for every member of their team.
There are no pills to take. There is REAL, HARD, WORK ahead. That is what these practices are all about. At BUILT to LEAD we have thought long and hard about what builds sustainable high performance individuals, teams, and leaders in work and life. BUILT to LEAD will lead these practice session for a while and slowly but surely we’ll lose control. This is going to be REAL, HARD, WORK and a ton of fun.
Our practice sessions are designed to improve your performance in work and life. All that we require of you is that you come into every session ready to hit and be hit. Come prepared to work. Bring an open mind, an open mouth, open ears, open eyes, and an open, receptive heart. You will never be the same. You will become a builder. You will become BUILT to LEAD.
Are you ready for some practice?
Let’s go. Your builder’s journey awaits.
